Sanctuary Doc

Sanctuary Doc tells visual stories of compassion for animals amidst our world’s biggest challenges.

A non-profit multimedia project, Sanctuary Doc illuminates the major issues facing our world today by focusing on animals and the people who rescue them.

Through our visual stories, we provide a unique platform highlighting people who change the lives of animals affected by war and conflict, climate change, deforestation, homelessness, animal farming, labor, tourism and more.

We educate current and future generations about how powerful simple acts of compassion can be–especially under the most dire circumstances. Our lectures, film screenings, photo exhibitions and programs are incorporated into college courses, and our work has been recognized by major media publications.

Featured Short Film

Transfarming Switzerland, a short film created for We Animals Media, documents one animal activist’s unique approach: to work with, not against, animal farmers. Sarah Heiligtag transforms animal farms across Switzerland and Europe into vegan farms and animal sanctuaries. Looking to make a drastic change in their business, animal farmers learn about Sarah, make contact with her and together they develop a plan to transform. Their reasons are both environmental and moral.

These changes are challenging, as they must adapt infrastructure and finances as well as deep-rooted farming practices. Despite this, Sarah has transformed more than 100 farms. What some animal farmers may view as a threat, these farmers view as an opportunity for change and progress towards a more sustainable future of farming.

How to Support Our Mission

By joining our Patreon, you will directly impact our ability to give a voice and a face to animals affected by violence and disasters around the world and their rescuers. Your donations allow us to hire local fixers, translators, and cover the travel expenses of our journalists, photographers, and videographers, who sometimes place themselves in harm's way to document these stories.

In addition to our distribution, Sanctuary Doc contributes to We Animals Media, allowing photos and films to be used by other animal rights organizations and publications at no cost to them. We believe that by making these images more accessible to the public, we can build a stronger, wider, and more educated community network of compassion and understanding for humans and animals alike.

Join our Patreon today for the latest updates about our projects and help us continue our mission of educating future generations through our workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.

Sanctuary is a registered IRS designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, making your donation tax-deductible. Become a Founding Member and help us tell the next chapter.
